I little before bed Illustration inspired by my Littlest one, who is now one. While sleepless nights have felt slow, time has whisked by far too fast.
Here’s some illustrations I created for the last couple weeks in the 52 Week Illustration Challenge. I hope you like them!
I could have fretted over the colour schemes and got them a bit better but I decided to just call them finished and put that energy into the next illustrations and the book I’m ever so slowly working on.
After spending a few months concentrating on traditional pencil, pen and paint on paper methods, I’ve decided to move back into my comfort zone and experiment some more with digital sketching and colouring.
I recently purchased ProCreate for my iPad, and can confidently say was totally worth the eight dollars! One of the biggest challenges I was having with physical paint, pencils etc was the space they took up and the time it took to clean them up after etc. I also feel my results using digital methods (colouring in particular) are much better.
The yeti / llama illustration is a hand pencil sketch, coloured digitally. The art deco cat was sketched and coloured in ProCreate.
I’ve recently started experimenting with watercolour painting. In this experiment I sprinkled a little salt onto wet watercolour to create a galaxy or sky kind of effect… although the galaxy effect wasn’t really achieved but I can now see how I could make it work in the future.
I also used a Pigma brush pen to give the outlines variation which I like… although much more practice is needed!
I’m planning to practiced all of these processes some more and try to replicate a version of this artwork in the future so that I can see improvements etc.
Today I finally put a laser cutting order in for a new range of designs which have been inspired by a happy home. Included are a happy house, a triangle tree, the flower designs I posted a month or so back and a couple of other fun surprises. You can see a bit of a sneak peek of a couple of the designs in the picture below.
My new range will be on different woods to my current range, and I’m using a different laser cutting supplier. Fingers crossed that my designs come back as awesome as I hope they will.
